Introduction to Mending: Buttons and Patches

  • Washington Street Art Center 321 Washington Street Somerville, MA, 02143 United States (map)

An introduction to mending by hand for the complete beginner. You will learn to thread a needle, sew on a button, replace a drawstring, and patch holes. You’ll also get an introduction to Japanese Sashiko stitching, a simple technique used for decorative reinforcement and patching. Mending can be creative and relaxing!

Each participant will receive a sewing kit in a repurposed Altoids tin (which we’ll decorate during the session) as well as all necessary supplies.

If you don’t know how to thread a needle, but your favorite shirt is missing a button, this is the class for you!

Workshop size: Limited to 12 people
Instructors: Bonnie Stewart and Rachel Freudenburg

To register, please send an email to both teachers: freudenr@bc.edu and bonniels13579@gmail.com. You will receive and email with confirmation of registration.
