Printed and Stitched in Time: Stories of Undaunted Women

  • The Vilna Shul 18 Phillips Street Boston, MA, 02114 United States (map)

Fiber and mixed media artist Sandra Mayo presents "Printed and Stitched in Time: Stories of Undaunted Women" at The Vilna Shul. This fiber art exhibition explores the intertwined stories of Sara Rus and Ruth Paradeis, two Jewish women who survived the Holocaust only to face the disappearance of their children decades later during Argentina’s military dictatorship.

Through her CJP/JArts Community Creative Fellowship, Sandra has researched the forces that sustain us in times of profound social trauma. Using Genograms—symbolic relational diagrams—as her visual language, she has developed new symbols for human rights and resilience, incorporating monoprints, screenprints, and embroidery on delicate yet durable materials. This work not only honors Sara’s and Ruth’s determination but also invites you to reflect on the small yet powerful connections and choices that help us endure and move forward. What rituals, relationships, and moments of meaning sustain us in difficult times?
